| I haven't posted in a long time. I have finished my last class, and hope to be done with my thesis by mid-late June. This will leave me with a little under a month to prepare for my oral comprehensive exam than can cover anything over the last two years. I have also began the job hunt. I have sent an application to a junior college in Abilene, and have just completed one of the applications for one of the school districts in the Abilene area. I'm finding that the biggest obstacle for the school districts is the issue of certification, which whether I want to or not, I will probably have to get. I love wasting time. Hopefully the Jr. College I applied to will have an opening and hire me and I can avoid teaching in the public school system. | | |
| It's been a while, so here is an update. I'm writting my thesis. I've turned in my introduction, finished chapter one (and have started editing it), and have started chapter 2. All in all I'm around 27-28 pages into "the big ugly." I'm fairly sure I can be done in August, which means that along with writing this monster I have to also start the ol' job hunt. Teaching is still going well-it's the only thing that drags me up here to school somedays- and I still do some part time for the Boys and Girls Club. | | |
| Last night I went to a future teachers forum for those who want to teach in the public school systems. The phrase(s) I heard for an hour and a half were, teach the test, coach;coach and teach the test, be dual certified (a subject and coaching) and learn how to teach the test well, teaching the test is crucial, and we need secondary level coaches. Heres a *&#@ tip, can your athletic programs, then maybe the students that you send to college won't have to be entirely re-educated. It is the largest black hole of resourses in the school system (maybe in our society). The response that was given when an student asked about fine arts programs was laughable. Paraphases it went something like this "as a fine arts teacher you'll need to be able to incorporate other dimensions into your programs." Translation: We'll need you to help us teach the test, and by the way, why did you not go into coaching? | | |
| Thesis is moving right along, I think there is a better than fair chance that I can be done in August. Teaching is gong well, our first test for the semester is this week so I'll probably be posting some interesting answers later in the week. | | |
